Every city has a flavor.
Detroit is bold, unapologetic, and full of fire. Detroit is driven by grit, talent, and a creative edge that keeps pushing forward.

313 Day is a celebration of Detroit and the people who shape it. So today, March 13, felt like the perfect moment to highlight the talent behind the city’s dining scene. Detroit’s restaurants are experiencing an incredible surge of creativity and skill, with chefs, restaurateurs, and hospitality teams producing work that rivals any major dining city. The diversity, technical precision, and creativity coming out of Detroit’s kitchens is something we take great pride in—and something we talk about often.

At Jabri Fine Dining, we travel often and dine around the world, but many of the meals that stay with us the most happen right here at home. What makes Detroit special is the depth of talent in its kitchens and dining rooms. There is respect for ingredients, strong technique, and a level of hospitality that keeps people coming back.
When we first moved to the metro area, dinners downtown were occasional. Now we find ourselves in Detroit multiple times a week, pulled in by the momentum of the city’s restaurants and the chefs who continue to refine and elevate what Detroit dining looks like.

One of the most exciting things happening in Detroit right now is the number of restaurants hosting thoughtfully curated wine dinners. Chefs are partnering with producers and winemakers from around the world, creating evenings that go far beyond a typical dinner service. These events bring chefs, winemakers, and diners together around shared curiosity and exceptional bottles. In fact, we recently attended two wine dinners in back-to-back weeks, a great example of how active and engaged the Detroit dining community has become.
Of course, we admire the chefs and their incredible teams, but over time we’ve also met incredible fellow diners and food lovers along the way. Some of the best conversations happen between courses discussing a dish, a wine pairing, or the next restaurant someone insists we try. Many of the people we now consider friends are people we originally met sitting a few seats away at a tasting counter or sharing a table at a wine dinner. That’s one of the things that makes Detroit special: the dining scene here feels connected.

And if you’ve never been to a Culinary Collective at Oak & Reel, it’s one of the best examples of what Detroit’s dining community can do when talent and collaboration come together.

Emma has grown up around these tables as well. Through the food she discovered a love of photography and now captures the images you see on our blog and Instagram. For her, these restaurants are part of her childhood, and the chefs, servers, and regular diners are also her community as well as her extended family.
A few of our Detroit restaurants we love:
What Detroit Means to Our Family
For our family, Detroit’s restaurants are where we celebrate milestones, reconnect with friends, and continue learning from the chefs and teams behind the food and often reset and recalibrate together.
We often say that meals are a form of therapy. Research consistently shows that family meals help children build stronger communication skills, confidence, and emotional connection. For us, the dinner table is where Emma learns about food, culture, curiosity, and the importance of sharing experiences together.
We’re grateful to play our role as enthusiastic diners who love to celebrate the chefs and teams that make Detroit special. The city’s story at the table is still being written—and we’re thankful to be part of it.
Happy 313 Day from Jabri Fine Dining.
