Detroit
When friends who know our palate kept insisting that Mink was a must for us, we knew it was only a matter of time. Tucked into Detroit’s historic Corktown neighborhood, we finally ventured in to see for ourselves. The moment you step inside, you’re greeted by a warm, attentive staff and what immediately caught our eye a gleaming caviar cooler. A beautiful welcome, and a fitting one. Few things capture our attention as quickly as the marriage of thoughtful service and impeccable taste. Mink is one of those places that instantly feels special.

Chef’s Choice Oysters:
Bay Water Indigo – Washington
Bay Water Sweet – Washington
Hama Hama – Washington
Chebooktook – New Brunswick
Acadian Pearl – New Brunswick
Murder Point - Alabama

Mink is a jewel of a restaurant known for their incredible sourcing of a la carte oysters, tinned seafood and caviar. To begin, we indulged in oysters and caviar, opting for the chef’s choice oysters a decision we highly recommend. In the great east versus west debate, we definitely lean more east, however we tried our very first oyster from Alabama. Discovery like this is why we dine.

For the evening, the five-course chef’s tasting menu was the natural choice and what we will do again on our next visit. For the amuse bouche, a duo of oysters, Chelsea Sapphire with jam and Bad Boy with truffle honey. The truffle honey was a revelation; one bite and we knew it was something we’d be craving again.Halfway through we enjoyed an intermission lobster roll which was classic and easy to see why it is so popular. And because we couldn’t resist, we added the ethereal caviar sundae because really, why not add caviar to dessert?
Amuse Bouche - Duo of Oysters

2- Radicchio Salad
3- Charred Spanish Octopus
4- Halibut Acqua Pazza
5-Plum Tarte

Mink is, simply put, a caviar lover’s dream and a raw bar paradise plus more. It’s the kind of restaurant you leave already planning your return. Next time, we’ll arrive wearing our “Everything’s Better with Caviar” merchandise, because never has that phrase felt more true.
Detroit, once again, you never disappoint.
