Medusa vs. SheWolf

When we first learned that one of our longtime favorite chefs, Anthony Lombardo, was opening Medusa almost next door to SheWolf, we weren’t quite sure what to think.

Would they compete with each other? Would we inevitably end up picking a favorite?

We are certainly not restaurant critics or reviewers, but we thought it would be fun to share our thoughts.

Medusa is not another SheWolf. It has its own identity, its own energy and its own reason to visit. SheWolf gives us Modern Roman, while Medusa takes us to Sicily.

What they do share exceptionally well are their tasting experiences and pairings. Both are places where we are very happy to put ourselves in the hands of the team and let them guide the meal. The tastings give you a much better understanding of what makes each restaurant distinct, and the pairings are thoughtful, interesting and always seem to teach us something along the way.

They are different enough that we have grown very fond of making sure we give both our attention. And they are literally close enough that, yes, we have had dinner at one and walked over for dessert at the other.

As for Emma? Her favorite at Medusa is the panelle. And she does not share. At SheWolf, it is the Capellini and we are lucky to get a bite,

So, SheWolf vs. Medusa?

We’re not picking. And thankfully, we don’t think we have to.

Two restaurants. Two very different expressions of Italy. One very convenient stretch of Detroit for our family.
