NYC
During a recent trip to New York City on the recommendation of one of our favorite local chefs we made a reservation at The Modern, and we’re so glad we did.
Located within the Museum of Modern Art, The Modern isn’t just adjacent to the art world it’s part of it. From the moment you walk through the doors, it’s evident that this is a Union Square Hospitality Group restaurant, renowned for their flawless service, elevated ambiance, and timeless approach to fine dining.
Every interaction was gracious and polished, striking that rare balance of attentiveness without intrusion. The room was elegant and warm, managing to feel both contemporary and comfortable, a true reflection of the museum it calls home.
Our Menu Highlights Included:
Honeynut squash and razor clams
Hiramasa marinated with avocado, pistachio, and wild sorrel
Stout sourdough with cultured butter
· White truffles from Tuscany, green & white pasta
Venison glazed with cognac, chili, and arugula pesto
Brûléed bread pudding with pear and Solo di Bruna
Cocoa and espresso, raspberry and hibiscus
What made our experience even more meaningful was the timing: we had just finished reading Setting the Table by Danny Meyer, founder of Union Square Hospitality Group. The philosophies he shares in his book, on hospitality, creating a sense of belonging, and leading with integrity, resonated throughout the entire evening. If you haven’t yet picked up this book, we highly recommend adding it to your summer reading list. Each of us took away something different, but we all came away inspired.

And a final touch worth noting: The Modern wins for best takeaway menu design, hands down. Thoughtfully curated and beautifully printed, the menu felt less like a memento and more like a piece of modern art.
The Modern is not just a restaurant it’s a curated experience that belongs on any NYC fine dining itinerary.
