Sifr

We wrapped up our Chicago trip with dinner at Sifr, and we couldn't think of a better way to end the weekend.

Knowing that sifr means "zero" in Arabic, we were immediately intrigued and had to ask why a restaurant would choose that name. Our server explained that zero represents the beginning of something new, the first of many concepts from the talented restaurant group behind Indienne. It symbolizes a starting point, a fresh chapter, and the foundation for what they hope will become an exciting collection of restaurants. We loved the thought behind it.

The atmosphere was lively and energetic. We dined on the first floor on a Saturday evening, and the restaurant was filled with beautifully dressed guests enjoying a night out. While this isn't intended to be a Michelin-star dining experience, it has a polished, stylish energy that makes it feel like a destination. If we had one piece of advice, it would simply be: dress up. Sifr is the kind of place that deserves it, and we have a feeling it's only going to continue gaining attention.

The food was outstanding. The classic hummus was delicious and we loved the addition of charred green chickpeas. Surprisingly, we all preferred it over the beef short rib hummus, which is saying something. The falafel also earned Emma's approval, and anyone who knows her knows that's high praise. The lamb kebab, batata harra, and saffron rice were all exceptional. The rice, in particular, deserves recognition. Saffron can easily become overpowering, but here it was beautifully balanced, enhancing every bite without ever dominating the dish.

If we had to describe Sifr in one sentence, we'd call middle eastern infused with Indian influences. As we always say, we're not critics, just a family who loves discovering remarkable restaurants. Sifr succeeds by being exactly what it set out to be: vibrant, welcoming, and full of incredible food.
