Chicago
Sepia is one of those restaurants we return to because it simply gets everything right. It’s casual fine dining in the truest sense. It’s refined without feeling stiff and welcoming in a way that makes it easy to enjoy as a family. From the moment we sit down, there’s a sense of calm confidence in the room. The food speaks for itself, the pacing is perfect, and the experience never feels rushed or overwhelming, which is exactly what keeps Sepia in our regular Chicago rotation.
The tasting menu is consistently excellent. What stands out most before the first “official” course even arrives is the series of amuse-bouches (aka snacks), which may be one of the best collections we’ve had anywhere. The Lady Edison donut is rich and savory, the smoked beef carpaccio tartlet delivers depth without heaviness, the Little Blackbird cannoli is playful yet refined, and the poached oyster is perfectly composed. Each bite feels distinct, yet cohesive, setting the tone for the rest of the evening.

We were especially happy to enjoy Osetra caviar dish again. Let’s be honest, “Everything is Better with Caviar” especially sablefish, always a highlight for our family and a reminder of Sepia’s ability to balance luxury with approachability. It never feels overdone, just thoughtfully integrated into the menu for those who want to indulge.
Every dish that follows continues that same level of consistency. Nothing feels experimental for the sake of being clever, and nothing fades into the background. It’s confident cooking that respects ingredients, technique, and the diner—exactly what keeps us coming back.

Sepia continues to be a restaurant we trust when we are in Chicago. It strikes that rare balance of being polished yet comfortable, making it just as suitable for meaningful conversations across the table as it is for family nights out.
Consistently delicious and thoughtfully executed, Sepia gets it right, every time.
Sepia: A Perfect Blend of Casual Elegance and Architectural History*

A Warm and Inviting Atmosphere
Located in the bustling West Loop, Sepia welcomes guests with an ambiance that feels both stylish and relaxed. The interior, housed in a 19th-century print shop, features warm wood accents, exposed brick walls, and soft lighting that sets the stage for an inviting dining experience. Unlike many Michelin-starred establishments, Sepia doesn’t feel intimidating. Instead, it offers a space where conversations flow easily ideal for a business dinner where comfort and quality go hand in hand.
Elevated Cuisine with a Casual Approach
While Sepia holds a Michelin star, its menu remains refreshingly unpretentious. Executive

Chef Andrew Zimmerman crafts dishes that are thoughtful, seasonal, and bursting with flavor. Each plate is executed with precision but without the formality often associated with fine dining. The menu evolves frequently, but you can always expect beautifully composed dishes that highlight locally sourced ingredients and showcase the best of contemporary American cuisine.

We loved starting the evening with a series of amuse-bouches The hiramasa crudo, finished with a lovely blood orange ponzu, was bright and beautifully balanced. And, of course, the golden Kaluga caviar was a luxurious highlight. The presentation is polished yet never overdone, making each dish feel both accessible and elevated.
Perfect for a Business Dinner
If you’re looking for a restaurant that strikes the right balance between upscale and inviting, Sepia is an excellent choice for a business dinner. The ambiance is polished yet relaxed, ensuring you can hold a meaningful conversation without the stiff atmosphere that some fine-dining establishments impose. The service is impeccable—attentive without being overbearing—making it easy to focus on both your meal and your company.
Final Thoughts
Sepia is proof that Michelin-starred dining doesn’t have to be intimidating. It’s a place where culinary artistry meets warmth, making it a fantastic option for business dinners or an evening out friends and family. Whether you’re looking for a business dinner location or simply a night out with impeccable food,
